Achillea ‘Moonshine’

Achilleas have a reputation for being somewhat short-lived and short flowering, but Achillea ‘Moonshine’ stands apart from other varieties. This is a strong-growing and reliably hardy selection, returning year after year and flowering long and hard.Achillea ‘Moonshine’ offers an incredibly long blooming period that starts alongside the later spring bulbs of May, continuing right through to the Asters and Crocosmias of September. Small clumps of silvery-grey divided foliage give rise to multi-branching stems carrying flat panicles of yellow flowers. The yellow colour tends to a more acid, lemon-yellow than golden yellow, creating a luminous and striking contrast with flowers in the purple/blue colour range. Drought tolerant, it will cope with hot locations and poor, dry soil, its horizontal plate-like flowers associating beautifully with upright grasses. Beneficial hoverflies and other insects love the flowers, so it makes a good choice for informal, wildlife-friendly borders.Unlike some taller varieties, whose stems flop and collapse, Achillea ‘Moonshine’ holds its form without staking and it’s the perfect height for the front or middle of the border. A superb and invaluable selection that well deserves its RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height and spread: 60cm (24in).
