Description
Akebia Quinata
Akebia quinata or the Chocolate Vine, is a vigorous, hardy climber with distinctive foliage and unusual, fragrant flowers. It will rapidly clothe walls, fences and arbours with its attractive, five-lobed foliage. From March to May, it bears racemes of nodding, deep maroon, three-cupped flowers with dark purple, vanilla-scented stamens. If plants are cross-pollinated, they may produce sausage-shaped fruits in hot summers. Height: 10m (32’). Spread: 2m (6’, 5).
