Apple ‘Bardsey Island’
Apple ?Bardsey Island? was discovered on the remote Bardsey Island, off the coast of North Wales. Fascinatingly, this variety discovered was a totally unique and variety of apple, that shows great resistance to disease like scab and canker. Also produces good sized crops of large pink-hued fruit to be harvested from September onwards. The flesh has a sweet flavour with a lemon-like scent, making it a superb dessert apple to be eaten straight from the tree or juiced immediately. When cooking, there?s no need to add sugar due to its highly sweet taste. This variety is not self-fertile. For the heaviest crops it is best grown with another variety. If you only have room for one tree then make sure that a neighbour has a tree close by that can act as a suitable pollinator. Pollination Group 2 – Cooking and Eating Apple Estimated time to cropping once planted: 2 years. Estimated time to best yields: 5 years.
