Apple ‘Blenheim Orange’
Apple ?Blenheim Orange? is a very popular heritage apple that is grown far and wide around the UK, producing large fruits with orange-red striped skin and a slightly nutty flavour, unlike many apples giving it a distinct point of difference. Best enjoyed when cooked, as when cut into slices it lends itself perfectly to sweet apple pies, or stewing down into a puree. Its structure holds true even through cooking process. Harvest in late September to October, store into November. Great resistance to mildew and grows vigorously, it may be a slow to fruit variety when young. This variety is not self-fertile. For the heaviest crops it is best grown with another variety. If you only have room for one tree then make sure that a neighbour has a tree close by that can act as a suitable pollinator. Pollination Group 3 Triploid – Cooking and Eating Apple Estimated time to cropping once planted: 2 years. Estimated time to best yields: 5 years.
