Description
Berberis thunbergii f. atropurpurea ‘Harlequin’
Berberis thunbergii f. atropurpurea ‘Harlequin’ is a distinctive RHS AGM variety with purple leaves marbled with rose-pink. Although grown primarily for its foliage, the pale lemon flowers in spring provide a pleasing contrast, followed by bright red berries in late summer. During the autumn months, the colorful leaves turn brighter red before falling to reveal prickly, arching stems. This is an excellent ornamental shrub for adding colorful accents to borders. Barberry plants can also be used to create colorful hedges and attract wildlife with their flowers and berries. Height: 120 cm (48). Spread: 150 cm (59).
