The white, scented, magnolia-esque flowers of Calycanthus ?Venus? have complementary purple and yellow centres that burst onto the scene in May, blooming intermittently through summer and autumn months. This variety is a dense and rounded deciduous shrub with a strong growth habit, growing to a medium size, baring mid-green glossy foliage that change to a darker yellow shade of brown in the autumn season. Height: 1.8m (6′). Spread: 1.5m (5′).Culinary note: Produces an edible and delicious spice. Snip off twigs and allow them to dry out in the sun or a low oven, then crush the bark and use like cinnamon.
