Chaenomeles x Superba ‘Elly Mossel’ is commonly trained as a wall shrub, but it also looks great as a free-standing specimen in mixed borders, wildlife gardens, and along the edge of woodland areas. In the spring, this rounded, deciduous shrub bears a stew of scarlet-red flowers. In autumn, the nectar-rich blooms of Chaenomeles x Superba ‘Elly Mossel’ are replaced by rounded, aromatic fruits that make an especially appealing display. Although edible, the Japanese quince’s apple-like fruits are only safe to eat when cooked. Height: 120cm (48). Spread: 200cm (78).
