Cistus x purpureus
The perfect flowering shrub for a dry, sunny spot! Cistus x purpureus from soft, bushy mounds of narrow, evergreen foliage that is smothered in pink flowers throughout summer. The saucer-shaped, papery blooms measure around 8cm across with hot pink petals marked with maroon blotches at the base drawing the eye into the central ring of golden anthers. Although the blooms only last a day, they are produced in such abundance that this popular shrub provides a big splash of colour throughout June and July. This unfussy plant copes brilliantly with poor soil, drought and coastal conditions providing you reward it with a warm, sheltered spot. Like other Mediterranean shrubs, it makes a good choice for smaller gardens and courtyards rewarding with the perfect combination of showy flowers plus evergreen interest throughout the year.
