Description
Citrus trifoliata (Citrus Fruit)
A hardy, deciduous shrub or small tree with stout branches armed with razor-sharp spines. The intoxicating scent of the white, cup-shaped flowers is reminiscent of orange blossoms from April to June. Occasionally, a second flush of blooms appears in the autumn. The flowers are followed by small, bitter green fruits that ripen to a pale orange colour. In the autumn, the dark green foliage turns yellow, adding to the seasonal interest. This is unquestionably a magnificent and rarely seen shrub for a sunny location, where it will provide colour and perfume for a very long time. Consider growing it in a large container to keep its size under control. Height: 5m (16′). Spread: 5m (16′).
