Grown for its fabulous coloured foliage, the smoke bush is a well known sight in UK gardens. Cotinus coggygria is a large, deciduous shrub with deep purple leaves that turn to vibrant hues of red and orange in autumn. In summer the frothy plumes of cream flowers surround the plant with a soft, smoky appearance. Hardy, and easy to grow, the smoke bush is often seen in cottage gardens, and its cut stems make a great addition to flower arrangements. Height and spread: 5m (16?).
