Dryopteris filix-mas
From tightly coiled crosiers, rise upright, glowing green fronds which create an eye-catching shuttlecock form that reaches up to 120cm. Dryopteris filix-mas or ?Male Fern? is a vigorous variety that is native to the UK and is one of the few ferns that will tolerate dry shade. An easy-to-grow hardy perennial that requires little maintenance and will adapt to challenging situations. As the fronds begin to fade, they change copper in autumn, adding further interest in the garden. An excellent addition to woodland gardens where it looks very effective with other informal woodland plants such as Pulmonaria and Digitalis. Height: 120cm (47in). Spread: 100cm (39in).
