Geranium phaeum var. phaeum ‘Samabor’
Geranium phaeum var. phaeum Samabor is a charming and adaptable woodland Geranium, perfect for drifting through shady borders and even coping with dry shade. It quickly bulks up into mounds of soft, deeply divided foliage that is spotted with deep maroon markings. This handsome foliage makes excellent weed-suppressing ground cover throughout the year. The maroon spots on the leaves are perfectly matched by masses of velvety maroon flowers that appear in late spring and early summer, the flowers nodding gracefully on slender, upright stalks well above the foliage. Their deep purple colour looks especially effective when contrasted against yellow foliage, such as a golden-leaved heuchera or Carex. This easy-going Geranium is great for those difficult shady spots such as dry, north-facing borders under a light tree canopy. It also makes a good choice for wildlife-friendly gardens as the flowers provide early food for pollinators. Height: 80cm (31in). Spread: 50cm (20in).
