Liriope muscari
This hardy evergreen perennial flourishes in almost any position, tolerating sun or shade, dry or moist soils. Strappy, evergreen leaves form a spreading clump that makes superb ground cover, delivers textural contrast at the front of borders and provides an easy filler for winter containers. In late summer and autumn, upright flower stems topped with violet-blue flowers are followed by small black fruits that provide further late-season interest. This versatile plant is particularly well suited to informal woodland borders where it will thrive in the shade beneath a light tree canopy.
