Description

Lombardy Poplar (Hedging)

Poplar trees, often seen towering above the landscape in neat rows, are commonly used as windbreaks by farmers. The almost triangular-shaped leaves turn lovely shades of yellow before falling to reveal the rough bark. The dense growth of the Lombardy Poplar attracts nesting birds and is also a great home for many insects. They can also be effectively integrated into a hedging scheme because they adjust quickly to being clipped on a regular basis. This encourages them to bush out and form an efficient screen. Height: 12m (39′). Spread: 8m (26′). Planting distance: 45cm (18). (3 plants per metre for a single line hedge).
