Lonicera nitida

Lonicera nitida is a well-known shrub that is widely used as an evergreen hedging plant. It has masses of tiny, dark green leaves that crowd the long stems, forming a dense, bushy plant that tolerates regular pruning. This shrubby honeysuckle is decked with small, creamy-white flowers from March to May, followed by a scattering of purple-blue berries. Not surprisingly, it is sometimes referred to as the Poor Man’s Yew, as it is less expensive. However, it is no less an effective option for creating formal hedges and topiary. This adaptable shrub, which is easy to grow and maintain, makes an excellent hedge or can be grown as a large specimen plant if left unpruned. Height: 3.5m (11′) if left unpruned. Spread: 3m (10′) if left unpruned.
