A dwarf evergreen smothered with spring flowers that fill the air with a strong fragrance – Magnolia laevifolia ‘Vanilla Pearls’ is a choice specimen for small gardens. A bushy, branching shrub clothed in waxy, dark green foliage, from March to April it bears a profusion of strongly fragrant, creamy-white flowers with butter-yellow stamens. In good conditions, a second light flush follows in midsummer. The perfumed flowers create a buzz with pollinators looking for early food sources.Plant this dwarf, evergreen Magnolia in containers framing a doorway, or in a wall side border where you can inhale its intoxicating vanilla perfume. Reaching only around 70cm high, Magnolia laevifolia ‘Vanilla Pearls’ is perfect for small gardens where other varieties would be unsuitable. It can even be planted as a low, fragrant hedge.
