Description
Modiolastrum lateritium
A rare sight in UK gardens, Modiolastrum lateritium is a semi-evergreen perennial that resembles a mallow but has a creeping habit that makes it ideal for colourful groundcover.Lobed, slightly hairy green foliage is carried on creeping stems that root as they spread, forming mats of attractive weed-suppressing foliage. Throughout summer, it bears dainty, cup-shaped, peachy-pink flowers with a dark pink halo surrounding a golden centre. Hardy in mild areas of the UK, this drought-tolerant perennial enjoys a free-draining, light soil and is perfect for creeping through gravel gardens, clothing dry banks, edging sun-baked rockeries or tumbling over patio containers. Plants can also be trained to grow vertically with support. Height: 30-50cm (12-20in). Spread: 1-1.5m (39-60in).
