Mulberry ‘Charlton House’

Mulberry ‘Charlton House’ is named after and derived from the country’s oldest of its species, which was planted at Charlton House in 1608 at the request of James I. Mulberry ‘Charlton House’ is a stunning, large tree with gnarled bark, heart-shaped leaves, and an aged habit. The black mulberry tree lives a long time but grows slowly, taking up to six years to produce fruit and producing its heaviest crop after a cold winter. However, as the tree matures, it produces dark red, almost black berries with a juicy, distinct, sweet flavor. During the summer, the mulberry fruit matures slowly and ripens in August. A great tree for a large garden! 12m (39′) tall. 15m (49′) spread Estimated time to cropping once planted: 4 years. Estimated time to best yields: 10 years
