Once mature, this fast growing plant will develop and woody stem, creating a striking architectural specimen for an exotic planting scheme. Native to the foothills of the Himalayas, Musa sikkimensis is hardier than Musa basjoo and its thicker, more sturdy leaves show better weather resistance and are more colourful. ‘Ever Red’ loves a mild environment outside with some protection. Alternatively, grow in a large container and move to a frost-free spot during the coldest months. Height and spread: 3-4m (10-13ft).
