Description
Myrtus ugni ‘Flambeau’
An attractive evergreen shrub with eye-catching foliage and beautiful blooms, with an added surprise! Myrtus ugni ?Flambeau? is a slow-growing variety with a dense, rounded habit of leathery, pointed leaves, variegated green, pink and cream and are scented when crushed. In May and June, small pink and white, bell-like blooms hang elegantly from tall stalks. Purple-red berries will follow the flowers, contrasting wonderfully with the foliage colour. They may not stick around on the plant for long though- once you’ve tasted one of these fruits you are likely to become hooked! Unique from any other fruit, the taste of these deliciously, aromatic berries has been described as a combination of blueberry, strawberry and sherbert! Perfect eaten fresh from the plant but also great for cakes, jams and even flavoured gins. A superb ornamental edible that is ideal for growing in a warm sheltered border or sunny patio pot which can be moved to a sheltered position over winter. Height: 5m (4.9ft). Spread: 1m (39in).
