Description
Quince ‘Vranja’
Quince ‘Vranja’ is a beautiful tree with attractive circular silver leaves and lovely green-pink flowers in the spring. The following huge, aromatic, pear-shaped fruits ripen to a gorgeous shade of yellow and can be harvested starting in October. When freshly plucked, quinces are bitter and not edible, but once cooked, they soften to create wonderful jams and jellies, and a few pieces added before baking enrich the flavour of apple pies. Rootstocks for pears and quinces: Quince C, Quince Eline, and Quince Adams are dwarfs that grow to be 2.5-3m (8-10′) tall when mature. Quince A is semi-vigorous, growing up to 3m (10′) to 4m (13′) tall at maturity. This type is self-fertile, meaning it doesn’t need another plant to pollinate it. Cropping time after planting is estimated to be two years. Estimated time to cropping once planted: 2 years. Estimated time to best yields: 5 years.
