Description
Rhododendron ‘Stewartstonian’
When planted in a prominent location on its own or in a mixed ericaceous shrub border, Rhododendron ‘Stewartstonian’ creates an immediate aesthetic impression. It is a beautiful, semi-evergreen, robust shrub. It is renowned for its flaming red, funnel-shaped blossoms in late spring and shifting leaf colours over the course of the year. The mahogany leaves turn a more reddish colour in the spring before turning green in the summer and gradually returning to a reddish tint as autumn approaches. From late October through November and possibly into December, it becomes a rich red as mahogany-colored leaves emerge, completing the yearly cycle. Height and spread: 1.5m (5′).
