Description
Rhododendron viscosum
Rhododendron viscosum’s leaves change colour from yellow to orange to purple in the autumn. Clusters of thin, funnel-shaped white blooms blushed with deep pink produce a wonderfully sweet honeysuckle-like smell from May to July. This deciduous shrub has hairy branches and deep green leaves with glaucous undersides. The Swamp Azalea, as its name suggests, needs continuously damp, but not soggy, soil. It thrives in full sun, though it will survive in part shade. On acid soils, this is an excellent specimen shrub for a damp forest edge. Height and spread: 2.5m (8′).
