Skimmia japonica Exstase is a male cultivar specifically selected for its impressive display of large, dark red winter buds, which remain vibrant for an extended period compared to other varieties. These striking buds bloom into fragrant white flowers in spring (April-May), providing an early food source for pollinators. As part of the Gold Series, Exstase is known for its robust root system and enhanced pest resistance. This compact, dense shrub features dark green, leathery leaves with a slight wave, forming a neat, spherical shape. Reaching a mature height of around one metre, it requires minimal care and does not need pruning. Ideal for borders or containers, this low-maintenance shrub thrives in shady areas, offering year-round visual interest and colour. For a complete display, pair it with a female variety to enjoy both blooms and berries. Height and spread: 1m (39in).
